If you have come to Bordeaux and would like to understand why wine here is part of French culture, I invite you to join me at the interactive museum La Cité du Vin.
It is an unusual, modern museum that tells the story of wine from all over the world through history, culture, art and science.
You will discover how wine is born, why the very same grape variety can give completely different flavours, how people learnt to grow vines, and why winemaking became part of the culture of so many civilisations.
Most importantly, you do not need to be a wine expert. I will be beside you to explain everything in plain language, answer your questions and guide you through the interactive exhibition, so our visit will be entirely personal.
And at the end comes perhaps the most delightful part: we go up to the belvedere, 35 metres above the ground, with its beautiful view over Bordeaux, and enjoy a glass of wine of your choice.
What I love about La Cité du Vin is that here you do not simply taste wine — you understand where it came from and why people have loved it for thousands of years.
